Some sessions are extra close to the heart—and this one is everything.
Before I went on maternity leave in 2023, I had the honor of photographing my best friend’s engagement session at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area just outside Fredericksburg, Texas. It was one of my final sessions before stepping back to welcome our second baby, and I couldn’t have asked for a more meaningful way to close that chapter.
We opted for a mid-morning session, which gave us the chance to embrace direct light—something I’ve been experimenting with more and more. Harsh sun isn’t always the first choice for photographers, but there’s a rawness and clarity it brings that felt perfect for this moment. The way it lit up the granite, the contrast with the soft touches between them—it was stunning and real.
Enchanted Rock is one of the most iconic spots in the Texas Hill Country for adventure engagement photos, and for good reason. Sweeping views, wild textures, and a sense of stillness that makes you feel small in the best way. It’s a place where stories feel bigger, and this one—celebrating friendship, love, and the last light-filled shoot before motherhood—will stay with me forever.
After the climb and the session, we headed into town for coffee at Caliche Coffee Bar & Ranch Road Roasters—a Fredericksburg favorite with the best espresso and cozy outdoor vibes. (Highly recommend if you’re making a day of your session!) You could easily pair an Enchanted Rock shoot with a relaxed brunch at Woerner Warehouse or wine tasting at a nearby Texas Hill Country winery for a full Fredericksburg experience.
