Boerne Newborn Photography | In-home with the Feller family

Boerne Lifestyle Newborn Photography
If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it 1000x times. I will forever be in love with in-home sessions. Especially when it comes to newborn sessions. These are the unglamorous, seemingly mundane moments you will want to remember later. The exhaustion, the diaper changes, the little fingers and toes, these are the things quickly over, but never forgotten. You will look back fondly on the imperfection: the tired eyes and fussy faces. These are photos that represent life, as it is, right now.
My goal is to capture the things that won’t be around in 6 months or a year. The little things that we are so quick to take for granted or become overwhelmed by in the moment. These photographs should represent your life with a newborn, all of it!
A little about the process:
I try to base it all around your routine and schedule. From feeding, to bathing, to nap time, I want to be apart of as much of it as you want me to be! Some of the most intimate and meaningful photos are those of the everyday moments of you and your baby’s lives. We will definitely get some portraits in there, but the heart and soul of my sessions are the routines of things.
From the mouth of Katie:
What did you love about your session?
I love that this session was in our home! For so many reasons I love that it was at our home but the big reasons being that we were so much more comfortable as a family and that will get to have these memories of our first home documented forever! It’s just so much more comfortable and you feel so much more natural when you’re in your own space, anyone would. I felt at home because I was at home, haha. It’s also fun to see how your home looks when it’s through someone else’s eyes or lens. And now I’ll have documents of her nursery when I know it won’t always look like this. It was really cool to see all the little things I so often overlook in the craziness documented in such an artistic and beautiful way. I assume it’ll look like a disaster zone at some point, lol. Plus having a newborn and going anywhere is so stressful so this eliminated so much of that stress!
What was your favorite part of your photos?
Well first I’ll say having a newborn is very stressful for any first time mom and Haeley was so understanding and patient while we got ready for the shoot. Then it was just kind of like hanging out with your friend and talking about your new baby as she took pictures. I would have to say my favorite part of the shoot was when she would try to get us to “act natural“ and we are just so awkward that it would make us laugh but it would turn out to be some of our favorite pictures. But we stayed laughing which is good I guess, lol. It was such an easy process!
How did you feel looking at your photos?
It’s an authentic memory that’s captured in a picture. Because you’re actually at home with your family, your pets, your pillows and the space around you is where you were making all of these memories. I kind of look at the spaces a little bit different now that they’ve been photographed so beautifully and just think about how special it really is to have them in the pictures versus a studio or outside where we never are with her. I feel so much love! I almost didn’t go through with getting pictures done just because being a first time mom with a newborn, who has the time! But now all I could think is how much I would regret if I hadn’t done these and how much I absolutely love them. Now I think how I need more wall space to be able to hang all the amazing pictures!!
Do you have any advice for other families wanting to do in home photos?
Don’t obsess with your house looking perfect because somehow when it photographs it just fits right in and you’ll feel so natural in it that it kind of makes a great photograph. My husband and I are so awkward at taking photos, so awkward. But being at home made it feel so much more natural and I can tell in the photos. Haeley did such a great job at capturing our mess and making it beautiful! Definitely don’t let your fears of “perfection” hold you back. That’s kinda the beauty of it!
