There is something uniquely tender about the early days of life with a new baby. The quiet moments, the deep-in-your-bones exhaustion, and the unexpected joy woven into the chaos. It’s a season that feels like it will last forever—until it doesn’t. That’s why in-home newborn photography holds such a special place in my heart, and why I was so honored to document this particular session just outside of Boerne, Texas.
This wasn’t just any session. It was for dear family friends who had just welcomed their second baby boy. Even more special? I photographed this in-home newborn session while still on maternity leave with my own newborn son. I had him wrapped to my chest, quietly snoozing as I worked. It was one of the first times I picked my camera back up since giving birth, and the experience reminded me why I love this work so deeply.

For this Boerne family, the morning began slowly. Big brother was excited, bouncing between curiosity about his new sibling and wanting to show me his favorite toys. Mom and Dad moved through the morning with that familiar combination of love and exhaustion, their connection to each other quietly grounding the whole home.
We photographed in the nursery, the master bedroom, and the living room—each space adding its own texture to their story. Light filtered through the windows with a softness that felt like a blessing, wrapping around the baby as he was cradled, fed, changed, and loved.

Of all the photography I do—from family to maternity to seniors—in-home newborn sessions are what I feel most called to. There’s a rhythm and vulnerability to those early days that you simply can’t recreate. The baby snuggles into the same couch where you’ll later read them books. The toddler runs laps in the hallway where you’ll mark their growth in pencil on the wall.
These sessions aren’t about picture-perfect poses. They’re about preserving a feeling.
